I have not been excited about a new president since JFK. Though I was young and naïve when he was president, I remember the US as a much more happy country. We now have the opportunity to regain some of that unity, and again have a leader we can admire.
I am not so blind as to think our country will suddenly unite and become one big happy family. In all probability half the population woke up this morning very unhappy. The racial divide is alive and well. The fundamentalist Christians are still thumping bibles and loudly exclaiming the end is near.
It may take another century before we overcome some basic problems such as this, and guess what folks, other problems will arise to fill the void. Adversity is the way of the world. Get used to it.
For the moment let those of us who feel good about the outcome of this historic event rejoice. It is a good time to be alive. We will either come together as a nation or perish, but we have the opportunity to do it in unity.
Finally, even more important than who won this election, we will be rid of George Bush. Anyone who still thinks it doesn’t matter who is president, please, take a hard look at the evil he has perpetrated on the world. Goodbye and good riddance G Dubya. Please go back to your wealthy friends (even Hitler had friends) and never come back.

I hardly ever place gadgets on this site, but this is a rather cool Google map. I believe this election may be one of the most important in American history.
Most of us will be glad to see this over. We are inundated with political ads and rhetorical bullshit - not as much from the candidates, but the Republicans. As one man said on CNN this morning, “A lot of people will be unhappy no matter who wins.”
God help us if an old man in dotage and a silly-ass, self-serving woman from Alaska wins.

Sarah Palin is a woman with no middle spot, no gray area. People either love her, the soccer mom syndrome, or see her as the most dopey ignoramus since Dan Quayle. In fact she has been perceived as the Dan Quayle of this election.
I know some highly educated women, who despite that fact are very intelligent as well. Some of these women identify with Palin as they do with Christ. I always try to weigh in on both sides of any issue. This time I cannot. Palin is a ridiculous person for the job of vice president. When I see Michelle Obama speaking, or an old pro like Hillary Clinton, I scratch my head in wonder at how anyone can see Palin as anything but a joke.
Fortunately, not all woman think Palin is suited for this level of leadership. From the Women Against Sarah Palin web site:
“Our country has embarrassed itself enough over the past eight years. A McCain/Palin victory would simply be an atrocity.”
-Wendy B., 43, Montgomery County, MD
If by some chance McCain and Palin acquire this election, I see Palin as a verb. It will be something like this:
Palin | pay lin | to be cute and silly about serious issues
verb [ trans. ]
1 To compensate for ability by avoidance and foolishness
• [ intrans. ]
2 ruin or damage (something).
A fine synonym for Palin would be FUBAR - Definition here for those who may not know.
“Damn George, you could palin up an iron ball.”
At a time when we most need a FDR to pull us together, we have Palin to polarize us. My fervent hope is she will disappear back into the wilderness of Alaska, and continue screwing with the people of one state, not the entire country. My condolences to Alaskans.
