About HALDB

simple-galNo, the picture on the left is not me. I just happen to like it. Every great idea, every great work of art, every beautiful thing, starts with a fundamental and basic concept.

This web site is about a lifelong pursuit of simplifying life. At the same time, let’s keep it fun and interesting. For most people who feel this way, therein lies the rub. I do not want to be a hermit, trekking the Himalayas and living in a cave. On the other hand, I don’t want to get so caught up in the current technology trend that I miss the basics of life.

This web site is about what I think about. As of December 2007, Technorati claimed to be tracking about 112 million BLOGS. Other estimates set the number at about 100 million total. The fact is, we don’t have an exact number. What we do know is, a hell of a lot of people write a hell of a lot of words on BLOGS.

It is safe to say that out of these millions of BLOGS, most are not worth the digital paper they’re written on. Any time something new comes about on the Internet, millions jump aboard. Just as quickly they jump off.

Why would anyone start a BLOG with so many doing the same thing? The first reason lies in the question; people follow fashion. Conversely, some of us have legitimate reasons to write.

  • We have something to say. We don’t care who agrees or who doesn’t agree.
  • We get to write. This medium provides an outlet for writers.
  • We can express opinion, and someone may even read it.
  • For the original idea bloggers, there is money to be made, lots of money.
  • For many of us, it is fun.

Like basic black, keep it simple. And interesting.
