Learning to Think as a Way of Life
This has been dubbed “The Most IMPORTANT Video You’ll Ever See.” Considering I have not seen all videos, that title immediately sends up red flags, and when I received the URL, I almost didn’t bother with it. Anyone who knows me also knows that I always look for truth, and visit Snopes frequently.
This video is about a fundamental arithmetical concept that should be taught early on in school. Beyond the frightful conclusions and facts there is a much deeper message here. Learn to think, and question the veracity of what figures really mean.

One of the problems is that politicians like to pick and choose their statistics and twist them to ‘prove’ their point. On the one hand mathematics is precise science but on the other, there are lots of little tricks to be played with numbers. By the way, I was a bit flummoxed by the video until I twigged he was on about doubling, redoubling etc. For a simple brain like mine, it would have been better if he had introduced the concept of 2×2, 2×4, 2×8 etc. - or doubling grains of rice on a chessboard - before launching into percentages and the more obscure political questions. Perhaps it’s my age - the old braincells are diminishing. . . . . . .
